Authorized referrers

Online referrals must be completed by a hospital social worker, charge nurse, or active member of the patient’s medical team.

Returning families

If a family has stayed at a Ronald McDonald House® Alberta location within the last 12 months, do not submit an online referral. The family must contact the House directly by phone or email to request a return stay.

Eligibility requirements

Patient criteria

The patient must meet one of the following criteria:

• A child 18 years of age or younger receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital or clinic, or
• An expectant mother experiencing a high-risk pregnancy

Geographic origin

The family’s primary residence must be located outside the city limits of the Ronald McDonald House® location they are requesting.

Caregiver age requirement

At least one caregiver staying at the House must be 18 years of age or older.

Room capacity

Room capacity varies by location, but standard family suites typically accommodate up to 4-5 family members. If a family requires a larger space or has unique accommodation needs, please contact the requested House directly before submitting a referral.
